Stiftskirche Sankt Peter und Johannes der Täufer的点评
点评：At the end of a trip from Salzburg to Berchtesgaden salt mines, we stopped for an hour in Berchtesgaden village and I visited THE "Stiftskirche St. Peter und Johannes der Täufer" (Collegiate Church of St. Peter and St. John the Baptist).
The church construction was started at the beginning of the 12th century, and then it was modified during the 14th century. The current building dates from the 19th century, when it was partially rebuilt, including the two towers in Neo-Romanesque style.
It is a simple but beautiful church, with a marble high altar dating from the middle of the 17th century, the altarpiece from 1665 depicting the Assumption of Mary into Heaven by Johann Spillenberger, Viennese court painter (not all agree - according to others the painter of the altarpiece was Zott).
A a wooden Crucifix and some statues on the walls are also notable.
