点评:After reading a ton of reviews, my family decided to visit Chileno over Santa Maria. We arrived at approximately 11 am on a Sunday and the beach was already decently busy with tourists and locals alike.
We rented an umbrella for 300 pesos from a young man who was set up right at the entrance of the beach. He carried the umbrella for us, found us a spot we were happy with and helped us set it up.
The water was on the cooler side but definitely still swimmable, and thankfully the wind wasn't terrible that day so the flag was at yellow for the day. A lot of my reason for choosing Chileno was the larger number of reviews that said the water was more calm than other areas of the coast.
Even though it is considered a blue flag beach, we did find and clean up a decent amount of other people's garbage in the sand which was no big deal, but sad that people had left it. There are many garbage bins located throughout the back of the beach and a large metal fish to recycle cans, bottles, etc.
We brought our own food and drinks as we did not see anyone or anything selling refreshments at the beach, nor did we see any vendors selling their fairs to anyone.
The kids searched and found a good number of coral pieces as well as some smaller sea shells. The sand was soft and great for building in. There was a large rock formation on the far right side of the beach that my son enjoyed climbing on but I regret not bringing his water shoes and mine for that part as the rocks both in and out of the water were very sharp and uncomfortable to step on. We found lots of snails, crabs and a few fish over by the rocks.
There was a separate roped off area for people using kayaks, paddle boards, etc which was nice that we didn't have to worry about anything coming or going where the kids were playing. A few ships docked off shore and had music etc but nothing the was bothersome and the people aboard never did come to the land but stayed in the water closer to the boats and snorkelled.
Closer to the end of the day, the wind did pick up which made the waves a bit stronger. My kids are all good swimmers but my smaller 6 year old did have a harder time with some of the bigger waves. A local man started feeding small pieces of flour tortilla to some fish which caused quite a large number of them to gather a few feet off the shore which was fun for the kids to see.
On the advice of another reviewer, I grabbed a roll of toilet paper from our condo before we left and was glad I did! The bathrooms had outdoor showers but were quite dirty inside and did not have toilet paper or paper towel. Not a huge deal but good to bring it if you'll need it!
Overall we were happy with our visit and spent about 5 hours total there and felt that was plenty.
