I booked tickets for the Haydock Races and Tom Grennan concert because I wanted to enjoy both the horse racing and the live music. The racing was the main reason for purchasing the tickets.
Following the cancellation of the racing, I was offered compensation of just £4.80 per ticket. I find this completely unreasonable given that a major part of the event has been removed. Racing tickets alone are often worth £20–£25, so the refund offered bears little relation to the value of what has been lost.
I understand the event has been relocated to Nottingham, but this is not a realistic alternative for many customers due to the significantly increased travel distance, time and expense involved.
What is most disappointing is the apparent lack of consideration shown to customers who specifically booked for the racing experience. Offering less than £5 for the cancellation of a substantial part of the event feels dismissive and unfair.
I have requested either a full refund or a refund that properly reflects the value of the cancelled racing, but so far this has not been forthcoming.
Customers paid for horse racing and a concert. When half the experience disappeared, £4.80 was apparently considered fair compensation. I'll let others decide whether that sounds reasonable.
Needless to say, I won't be rushing to book another event if this is how paying customers are treated when things go wrong.
