A legendary Soviet aircraft carrier
天津滨海航母主题公园的点评
点评：The focus of this park is the Kiev, a legendary 1970s Soviet aircraft carrier. It was once the pride of the Soviet fleet, but was sold off in 1996. It's about 45,000 tons and 273m long, with a giant flight deck and lots, lots, lots of interior space. Part of the interior has been remodeled to make room for a hotel and exhibition spaces, but you can still get a good sense of how it used to be.
I can still remember reading about the Kiev back in the 1970s, when it was the first big Soviet carrier and was viewed with much alarm from Washington and London. I’d never have guessed that one day I’d be wandering around freely in the Kiev‘s interior, with not a Soviet guard to be seen.
As well as the Kiev itself, there is a rather strange ersatz Russian town, with stores and restaurants selling Russian food and souvenirs. During the day there are also a couple of staged action events around the Kiev.
Transport: It takes about 90 minutes to get there from central Tianjin. You can either take a Didi taxi all the way, or take the Metro line 9 down to Tanggu station and take Didi or a taxi from there. At the park itself,there was a taxi rank with plenty of taxis waiting.
This is a great visit if you are interested either in cold war history or giant warships in general.
