Day Trip from Cruise is Doable but Tough

点评：We rented a car and drove around Cape Breton (i.e., Cabot Trail) from the cruise dock. On-line suggests it's a 4 hr drive, but you have to add 1+ hrs to/from the Cabot loop. And the 6-hour timeline assumes the driver has the abilities to pass slow people on windy roads with sometimes challenging sight-lines and fading yellow lines, etc. So cruise-exit to cab to car rental to tour and returns is a minimum 6-hour drive+trip. While doable, it is pretty much non-stop, eat in the car. But, what about the trip?
The views are among the best we've seen. Ocean, hills, cliffs and especially unusual is the variety of growing zones which get into obvious Taiga on the higher mountains (i.e., minimal scrubby trees, barely not tundra). Beauty is of course deeply personal. We'd rank the west coast of the Cape of Good Hope, Canadian Rockies (i.e., Icefields Parkway), Big Sur, Going to the Sun road, Norway's fjords, some in southern Utah higher, but that's a short list of car drives! :)
Would we do it as a day trip again? Maybe, but Tip: We'd drive only ~40% of the way, by going up the east coast and then return, as it would be more relaxing and allowing more stop-and-see. The best scenery on the west coast is already pushing the 50% mark, so if you want that, you may as well do it all.
