Worthwhile but note timing issues
Ruakuri Cave的点评
点评：We booked this tour from Australia about 6 weeks beforehand. I was confused that we were asked to allow more than 30 minutes checkin before Ruakuri vs that Ruakuri Cave was only 5-10 mins from the Waitomo Caves. I thus allowed an hour to check-in to be safe (because we would have gotten there 20 mins not 30 mins beforehand). Having found out later that the 30 mins would have been sufficient, I told the staff that the instructions should be clearer but they were really not sympathetic about the issue even though I pointed out I had allowed 1 hour in total to visit Waitomo Glow Worm Caves and then Ruakuri Caves though I was from a local hotel and had a short transfer between them. I do understand that people are often late because they mis-time - we had 8 people missing because of this who were accommodated by the tour company at Ruakuri Cave (i.e. we waited for them) but we had a) booked a local lodge (Waitomo Caves Guest Lodge which I recommend) the night before and allowed an extra half hour time to go to Waitomo Caves and then an extra half hour between Waitomo Glow Worm Caves and Ruakuri Cave which we were then told unsympathetically wasn't needed. Booking within 1/2 hour was considered sufficient regardless of transport time even if you arrived 20 mins before departure. I did enjoy the video of the caves while we waited but there was a lot of waiting here.
So major annoyance rant over. The Ruakuri Cave experience was very different to the Waitomo Glow Worms Cave. Allows photos (appreciated) except for photos with people on black water rafting. The walking on the circular stairway can be quite evocative both visually and audibly when your group starts singing as ours did. The caves are excellent. There are glow worm sections you can see and photograph (without flash). Explanations of the original Maori exploration was interesting. Well worth visiting.
