Wonderful evening with nature!
Badger Watch Dorset的点评
点评：My wife spotted this and suggested we go. She had never seen a live badger and although I’d had views of ones crossing roads at night it was hardly ‘watching them’
The venue is tucked away down some small side roads, but easy enough to find with a sat nav. Good car parking and toilets, albeit the only time I’ve used facilities that included a rack where cattle would have been held by the head while being examined!
The lady who greeted us was friendly and during the walk across the field we had a wonderful chat about the countryside.
We arrived about 6:30 at the hide and were the only people there, so had the entire place to ourselves. I was aware Badgers generally don’t appear until dusk, but it gave us plenty of time to settle in. There was plenty of bird life to watch, including a brief visit from a Sparrowhawk.
At around 7:40 the action started with a visit from a beautiful condition dog Fox, who enjoyed some of the food put out. The first Badger, a sow, appeared slightly after 8pm while it was still daylight. We were then treated to a reappearance from her with a very confident cub.
Eventually we were entertained by the same dog Fox (identified by distinctive colouring around the tail) and no less than two boars, two sows and a total of four cubs. One of the cubs was so relaxed despite our presence that it kept coming closer to the hide, until we lost sight of it and it could be head moving literally under our feet!
We eventually left around 10:30 as my wife was becoming very tired, although I could have stayed until midnight, when the lights go off!
Overall an incredible experience and we felt blessed to see such magnificent creatures so close to. Yes it’s not cheap to have a whole hide to yourself, but we also had a unique personal experience. As my wife said every one of the animals we saw were in peak condition. We went knowing nature is not a guaranteed event, we left feeling privileged to spend time in the company of these wonderful animals
