点评：I was super excited about this trip and it did not disappoint. After a short walk to the hide and a few mins settling in, we waited…but not for long. A rabbit joined us for a few mins (not in the hide!) and then at around 8pm, I saw the top of the grass moving as someone weaved a path through it and then a little black & white face emerged! Over the next 15 minutes or so, another one appeared, and then another, and another….8 in total! They all puttered about quite happily sniffing out worms and peanuts for well over an hour. Occasionally something spooked them and they made a dash back to the sett (they were surprisingly quick!) but they soon came back. We left at about 10:30 feeling very happy and hugely privileged.
I should note that it had been a warm & fine day which may have positively impacted on our ‘visibility’…perhaps on a colder/rainier/windier day the badgers may have preferred to stay indoors (and who could blame them?!). It is important to remember that these are wild animals and not paid performers…it’s always a chance affair as to whether you see them. We were lucky this time but another time, it may have been different. Anyone booking a hide here needs to go into it not expecting to see anything since that is a realistic possibility, hoping that you do and then feeling enormously lucky if you do.
The hide itself was comfortable - but don’t expect luxury: it is functional and more than adequate.
