Comitán to Lagunas de Montebello by collectivo
Parque Nacional Lagunas de Montebello的点评
点评：It is easy to get to the Lagunas from Comitán by collectivo - however, I did experience some challenges getting back.
In Comitán, the collectivos going to the Lagunas have a terminal located on Avenida prof victor m aranda l, just a few addresses south of 2a Calle sur poniente.
You take the collectivo to Tziscao (1 hour) and there you’ll find people offering tours of the lakes on tuk tuks. You can also opt to do things such as going on horses or rafts.
My tour covered 5 of the lakes, although there are more lakes in the park. After that, I requested to be driven the the Chinkultic archaeological site nearby. The total cost was 700 pesos.
The lakes themselves are picturesque and quite tranquil at least when I visited on a Sunday. They can get crowded though. At one of them, you can see across to Guatemala. For me, this was primarily an opportunity to take some pics and enjoy a different climate from other parts of Chiapas.
The Chinkultic site is remarkable and well worth visiting. It’s about 30 minutes drive outside the park.
Leaving Chinkultic, I got the collectivo back to Comitán - or so I thought. The one I got decided to leave me at a stop a short drive away and told me to wait for another one to complete the journey. However, the other collectivos didn’t stop to pick me up as they passed by, I think because they were full. After quite a lot of time waiting and getting worried about my options, a taxi fortunately passed by and took me to Comitán. Based on this, I would counsel some caution if you are also looking to get to Chinkultic - maybe just make sure the collectivo you get there will be going all the way to Comitán (unless you don’t find a certain randomness to the trip, being stuck at the side of the highway and ending up talking to random locals curious as to why a gringo is standing around in the middle of nowhere!)
