Afternoon tea the highlight of the Centre.

点评：My mum and I visited together for both the Centre and the afternoon tea. The Centre itself was nice but the museum was mainly full of replicas ~ there were some famous autographs and letters though which was nice to see. The Centre firsts takes you through a presentation held by someone acting as a character from a Jane Austen book. This goes on for around 20mins and tells you some interesting information about Jane Austen, her family and her time in Bath. Then you are led downstairs for the exhibition which is full of replica clothing, tools and information about the era, Jane’s books and Jane herself. You do have the opportunity to try on some Regency style clothing, but we chose not to do this. You could also write with a quill and ink which we did and was quite sweet. After the Centre, we went upstairs for some afternoon tea. We got 10% off for having visited the Centre which was nice. The staff were all very friendly and the restaurant more than happy to swap bits of the afternoon tea out for food we’d prefer. For example, one of the sandwiches on offer was a tuna mayonnaise to which neither of us like, so we got a cheese sandwich instead. When you arrive, they give you a booklet about Jane and the Centre which contained a small self-led walking tour through Bath. We did this afterwards and it was very nice as it took us through the city and we saw all the locations that Jane either mentioned in her books or lived in herself. There was a gift shop as well, with 10% off, however we felt it was a bit expensive (£12 for a bookmark). Overall, I’d definitely recommend the afternoon tea and the self-led tour, but not sure if I’d go back to the Centre again as it was more of an experience than a museum which I think I would have preferred.
