点评:I went there on a day trip Easter 2025. It was worth the drive. Many other reviews have stated that the road into the cliffs is horrendous and you need a 4WD with sturdy suspension. Having been there myself, I suspect that these reviews were written by people who were simply going too fast. I found that if I simply drove to the conditions, there was no problem. Just don't drive like you're on a motorway!
The charge for admission is now $10 per car, not $5 (and yes, there is a security camera watching you). I do not begrudge it in the least, as both the cliffs and the road to them are on private property, and the admission charge is to maintain the road. Remember, the farmer doesn't have to admit the public onto his property.
The cliffs themselves are an awesome sight, and getting amongst them was quite an experience. At the time we went, it was a riot of Autumn colour. Northern Hemisphere visitors please note: In New Zealand, April is Autumn, not Spring. You will need stout footwear, preferably tramping boots. Don't be like the fool I met who was wearing jandals. Being in the midst of the formations gave the decided feeling of being in the Wild West.
Speaking of the Wild West, the main road, State Highway 8, was a definite Wild West on the way up and back. Holiday Season seemed to bring out all the idiot drivers. Lindis Pass is no place for impatient drivers and reckless overtaking manoeuvers. In Lindis Pass, "Slow Down" really DOES mean slow down, and it applies to everybody. One driver who didn't think it meant them was in a ditch at the side of the road. Another two drivers I saw overtaking, it would have been fatal had anyone been coming the other way. From the point of view of driving, I was glad to be leaving the area.
