点评:This museum details the mining process and development of Roros to becoming a central copper mining town and does this extensively through its exhibition space via working models of the mines from extraction, smelting and through to distribution. It is quite detailed here and also houses 2 temporary exhibition spaces.
Both temporary exhibitions I found interesting just able to catch the end of the social identity exhibition (as told through the eyes of a Sami girl) and the other about legacy of Norwegians who were deemed collaborators under the years of occupation and how this knowledge has impacted their families today.
The museum is built on 3 floors, and you start with a basic understanding on the first floor (entrance way) before going down into each room which has information boards about the development of Roros becoming a mining town in English and Norwegian. You can also download an audio guide via QR code onto your phone to take round which does a better job of explaining this in detail.
The museum is extensive of the mining process, perhaps a little too much, so I can see children getting a little bored. That said, the interactive models that light up and have dynamic sound help counter this. The lowest floor opens up into the old building where smelting took place and still has various objects from the period which surround you. Quite impressive as it really gives a sense of the large scale to it all.
As others have noted its weaker on the social aspect, the people who lived and worked in such places and the environmental concerns mining posed.
The shop and small café are all open plan with the shop selling some interesting and unique items relating specifically to the site and also guidebooks to the exhibitions if needed (all main languages covered). Well worth the visit, particularly as I dont think there is any other museum like it.
