点评：If you’ve any interest in industrial history, you should visit this place. Fascinating, and well worth a couple of hours. The sheer engineering skill and human effort in digging 500m down, and 2km out under the sea, through hard rock, to extract tin-bearing rock - which then had to be crushed and filtered to extract the 0.4% tin - is mind-boggling. Tin mining in the UK was killed by the expansion of large scale open cast mines in eg south America, obviously much cheaper to run. But this mine supplied a lot of the Uk’s needs for tin between 1920 and 1990, when it closed, and provided a lot of well paid- given the conditions, deservedly so- jobs locally. Don’t miss the so-called Dry room where the miners got ready- real social history. So atmospheric - you can close your eyes and be there.
Make sure that you catch one of the three guided tours each day. You’ll get much more out of it, as they’re run by former employees. Geevor was the besot interesting thing we visited in Cornwall, and we don't say this to denigrate the rest.
