点评:Lived in Devon all our lives, visited Cornwall even honeymooned there, but never been to Tintagel Castle. Well now we have, and so very glad we did.
You have to be fairly fit to negotiate the VERY steep entrance/exit. Even when the mini bus is up and running, it doesn’t take you fully up and down. There needs to be more resting areas with seating, as we found it quite challenging ( in our 60’s). There were young people, especially those pushing prams too struggling. The temperatures in the very high 20’s didn’t help either.
One needs to allow plenty of time for this visit, so I’d advise an all day parking ticket, which cost us £6. There is a lot of up and down and at time steep steps to access various areas of this site, and after negotiating the bridge, you really need to explore this amazing slice of history. The views are breath taking.
There is a cafe and many ice cream shops, as well as a gift shop being an English Heritage site. A small beach area that many people and dogs were taking advantage of a cool down. Wouldn’t recommend visiting in the rain for fear of slippery surfaces, you can be quite high up in places. We looked around the village shops and had fish and chips from their chippy ( highly recommended), made the most of the day.
If you intend to be in the area , I’d highly recommend a visit, it’s one you will never forget and you would be supporting its conservation.
