点评:This is a government owned property with a history, which has recently undergone a face-lift. The open-plan dining room downstairs has been moved upstairs and is now one quarter of the size but at least it's now air-conditioned.
The original downstairs dining room is now dedicated for private functions but it is dark, dank and has a strong musty smell which is normally caused by dampness in a room which isn't heated/well aired.
Nevertheless, the lawn/grounds are lovely for afternoon tea or the occasional quintet if you can cope with the afternoon heat. This property was probably very lovely in its hay day but it's now showing neglect from a lack of maintenance and lack of modern washrooms.
The food is OKkkk, a fusion of western and local spices which doesn't always work. There are a few weird and unexpected spice combinations especially on the Christmas menu. The afternoon tea is nothing to write home about though, in fairness, it's difficult to find a half decent afternoon tea in Penang. Each to his own it seems!
