点评:Visiting the Gardens of Versailles has been a dream of mine for years, especially after seeing so many garden centers and estates claiming to be “inspired by Versailles.” So when I finally made it, my expectations were understandably high.
The palace itself and the surrounding architecture are absolutely stunning, gold detailing, grand facades, and the sheer scale of it all are undeniably impressive. However, the gardens were surprisingly underwhelming. I expected vibrant displays, carefully maintained flower beds, and fountains in full glory but instead found dry grass, sandy walkways, and many areas that looked more like ruins than regal gardens.
Many of the iconic marble pots were empty, and the fountains weren’t running, which made the whole experience feel less like a living masterpiece and more like a faded memory of former grandeur. It’s disheartening to think about how much public funding and tourism revenue this site receives, yet the upkeep doesn’t reflect it.
It’s still worth visiting for the history and architecture, but I left feeling a bit disappointed. If you're going mainly for the gardens, manage your expectations.
