点评:The Arc de Triomphe is truly the heart of the city's grand axis, and you do not realize how massive it is until you are standing right underneath it. It is positioned at the center of a chaotic twelve-way roundabout, so, please, do not try to dodge traffic to get there. There's an underground tunnel that you can use instead. If you went all the way to the grand arch, I suggest you get a ticket to climb to the top.
As you marvel in the sheer size of the arch, appreciate the carvings, the battles, the history, and the sculptures. Then, I suggest you go up. Climbing the stairs was no easy task, but it's well worth the slog. There is no elevator. The view of the twelve avenues radiating out from the circle is worth the effort. It gives you a perspective of Paris’s urban planning that you simply cannot get from the ground. We found it was the perfect spot to appreciate the city at the end of our day.
Every day at 18:30, there is a ceremony to light the flame at the tomb of the unknown soldier underneath the arch. It's a moving ceremony and interesting. You will not be able to participate up close, but you can observe from behind the roped-off section.
