An interesting castle visit, some great views, but a pity there is no audio guide as promised on the website.
St. Mawes Castle的点评
点评：St Mawes castle is located at the end on a peninsula reached by twisting and at times narrow rural roads. There is a small car park located near to the entrance to the castle. The car park is free to English Heritage members. There is a relief car park but there was plenty of room during our visit.
Entry to the castle is via the old gatehouse which doubles as reception and a small shop. Drinks and snacks can be obtained from the shop but there is no café on what is a relatively small site.
From the gatehouse visitors make their way over a bridge to the castle tower. There are a number of floors in the tower and visitors can access the roof which grants some good views of Pendennis Castle across the water at Falmouth, of St. Mawes village, and St Anthony Lighthouse, which was a feature on the children's television programme Fraggle Rock.
Entry to the castle involves steep slopes and steps, there are numerous steps to negotiate in the castle and much of the grounds is grassed and also involves steep slopes. There is plenty of seating available throughout the grounds.
The English Hertitage website states that an audio guide is available and suitable for both adults and children. Unfortunately that is not the case as no audio guide is available which is a shame. Information is available within the castle and it is laid out so as to demonstrate both the defensive capabilities and living conditions within the castle.
In the grounds near the entrance is a toilet block including a toilet designed for use by disabled visitors. Baby change facilities can be found in both male and female toilets.
