点评:We had recently rejoined the National Trust specifically to visit the gardens here. So when it was decided to let dogs in we felt we had no option but to cancel our membership. It was actually due for renewal in September and we were tied in until then but we were allowed to leave early on the grounds that the basis on which we had joined had now altered.
As I have clearly stated we love dogs. And in a different place such as Lanhydrock (dodgy spelling) where the grounds are much more open I don't think this would have been an issue. But here the paths are steep and narrow in places and the idea of trying to get past dogs straining on their leads or jumping up to say hello was not something we could deal with. We are older now and my partner in particular felt barking/ straining dogs in a constrained space was neither safe nor enjoyable. Others have made the point about small children which is equally valid. I see from at least one other review that barking dogs have been an issue already. There is also the issue of dogs pooing. And whilst most people pick this up not everyone does.
Enid the lovely lady who I spoke to in Liverpool when I cancelled our membership represents the very best of the National Trust. However the same cannot be said of everyone who works here/there.
So it's goodbye from us. We will continue to enjoy dogs where we are not worried about falling over them and where their barking and dog frolics are not going to disturb our enjoyment of a gentle walk
