Excellent historical house, worth visiting; catering not so good

点评：This was our second visit to Burghley with a gap of several year between. It has improved for visitors in many ways and was worth visiting again. On both occasions we chose it as a sensible place to break a journey between the south coast and the North when using the A1 motorway. We were suprised that we had to drive from Stamford High street to the border with Peterborough to find the visitor entrance, however!
The parkland was lovely on a warm spring day and there was plenty of parking. The house tour was as informative as we expected. The children also enjoyed the adventure park facilities after visiting the park, and we also enjoyed some of the sculptures and water features in the gardens.
The disappointments are in the catering and staff service. In the Orangery, there is just not adequate provision for dietary requirements, and service is slow and generally poor there and in the Garden cafe and catering stands in the adventure park. Do not plan on dining during your visit.
