点评:Hyde Park is one of the 8 Royal Parks in London. It covers a huge 350 acre area and features statues, monuments, fountains, a rose garden, Hyde Park Corner, the Serpentine boating lake, and cafes.
If your itinerary only allows for a quick visit, then it’s a good idea to pick up a map of the park so you can target the more interesting areas.
If like us, you have time to spare in London then you can stroll and explore at your leisure.
One of the best things about Hyde Park is that it links up with several other Royal Parks, so that you can do an extended walk from Kensington Palace through 4 Royal Parks, past Buckingham Palace and right through to Westminster.
On a clear, sunny day, this was a wonderful thing to do.
We started at Kensington Garden which flowed almost seamlessly onto Hyde Park. From there, we continued through Green Park and finally onto St James Park.
A highlight at Hyde Park was walking alongside the Serpentine and stopping for a coffee at the Serpentine Bar & Kitchen. We sat on the outside deck, overlooking the lake and watched the kids feeding the ducks and geese as swans and small boats passed by.
I’d been keen to see the Diana Memorial Fountain but it is a strangely unremarkable water feature. It’s very under-stated. There are no water jets or ornamentation - just a ditch-like channel that loops around a gently sloping grassy area.
More dramatic Hyde park features include the statue of Achilles, the Apsley Gates, and the memorials and monuments around the Wellington Arch.
