点评:I had long wondered about the Balkans, having heard news about the region throughout the '90s. This tour helped me better understand the different cultures, histories, religions, terrain and climates that were combined by Tito in the '40s. The people we encountered on this tour were all so kind, and willing to share their (varying) perspectives on what their land(s) had endured, and what it meant to them. Funky Tours, and our guide Ajla, did a superb job of making the trip both fun and educational, exposing us to such a wide range of foods, wines, places and personal histories.
The old towns of Dubrovnik, Kotor, Mostar, Split and Zagreb were very charming with their old walls and streets. Sarajevo, by contrast, was very stark, showing the wounds from the conflicts of the 90's. The vast countryside we passed through was striking and diverse, giving more comprehension of the context of the Balkans.
Finally, Ajla managed to create a group atmosphere that made the trip with 10 people a shared experience with diverse and interesting people, who are all now our friends.
