点评:We were looking for something to do on a very wet day in Devon and decided to drive down to Torquay from Honiton and decided to try Torre Abbey. There’s no parking at the Abbey other than disabled spaces so we parked in Torre Valley South just a 2 minute walk away (coins or app - no cards). We did the gardens first, dodging some of the rain and loved the palm houses and the ruins of the old abbey. Then we did the house which was an absolute rabbit warren - really interesting but quite confusing to navigate. I particularly enjoyed the exhibition covering the origins of the abbey, the dissolution of the monasteries, the transformation of the abbey into a family home and the story of the Cary family who lived there for hundreds of years until they ran out of money and had to sell up in 1930. The views from the house to the sea were lovely. There’s no cafe on the premises but just a short walk past the tennis courts you can find ‘Cantina’ - a member of staff kindly gave us directions.
