点评:The house and gardens are very attractive and well kept but the staff have no idea about customer service. The queue to get in was about half an hour and there was a woman employee trying to ask us all not to join it but powerless to prevent the inevitable determined visitors from barging through. Coach parties arriving at the same time (10am) and the group leader wanting to pay in cash for the whole group took up a member of staff for the duration of our queueing time. When we got to the front of the queue, our ‘English Heritage holiday cottage’ guest pass was greeted with hostility by the cashier. She actually said ‘Oh God’ when we showed it.
This set the tone for service for the whole place. The shuttle driver kept us waiting for 15 minutes while he discussed his upcoming dinner break on his walkie-talkie. We waited 30 minutes for service at the terrace cafe and despite being seated, we were unable to order anything despite asking staff for service. The outside tables were sticky with spills that had not been cleaned up so wasps were a problem.
We left believing the place was staffed by lazy and incompetent employees who cared little about the customers. I suppose they realise no one will be coming back because they are on an island! The £50 entry fee for a couple is expensive and constantly being asked for an extra donation at every purchase is tiring.
Take a picnic and head down to the beach on foot to avoid the queues!
