点评:The museum itself is rather small, and we almost skipped it to go to the whaling museum. Would THAT have been a mistake! The introductory movie at the visitor's center was informative, though the role players' clothes looked a bit too clean and their teeth a bit too straight to be truly authentic. But these are mere quibbles. The signage and pictures and exhibits were clear and helpful and hit the sweet spot between being too informative and too superficial.
But the highlight by far was a walking tour with a volunteer guide, Lucy Bly. I am going to pull out the thesaurus to try to convey what a one hour tour with her is like. She is a retired school teacher, 80 years old, and spry doesn't begin to convey her personality. But here we go: she is knowledgeable, she is funny, she is irreverent, she is multi-lingual, she is passionate about her city, she is both erudite and down-to-earth. She is outspoken and warm...definitely one of the top tours my wife and I have ever been on. We even shared goosebumps discussing German films! Simply put, she is a treasure.
