Good Small Museum, Great Volunteer Guide
New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park的点评
点评:The museum itself is rather small, and we almost skipped it to go to the whaling museum. Would THAT have been a mistake! The introductory movie at the visitor's center was informative and well done. The signage and pictures and exhibits were clear and helpful and hit the sweet spot between being too informative and too superficial.
But the highlight by far was a walking tour with a volunteer guide, Lucy B. She is, as my wife said, "a treasure." We have been on many walking tours and have had some great guides, but she was the among the 2-3 of the best we've had. She is a retired school teacher, 80 years old, and spry doesn't begin to convey her personality. But here we go: she is knowledgeable, she is funny, she is irreverent, she is multi-lingual, she is passionate about her city, she is both erudite and down-to-earth. She is outspoken and warm...definitely one of the top tours my wife and I have ever been on. We even shared goosebumps discussing German films! Do not overlook this museum.
