点评：Opened in 1865 and covering an area of about 47 hectares (116 acres) in Southeast of Amsterdam, Vondelpark (named after the 17th-century playwright and poet Joost van den Vondel) is the largest and most-famous park in the Netherlands.
There are numerous types of plants and trees, as well as many birds and small animals (like squirrels), at this beautiful urban park. There’s also an open-air theatre, various ponds, playgrounds, cafés/restaurants (Proeflokaal ‘t Blauwe Theehuis, Grootlkhuis, De Vondeltuin…) and more. The park is very near and easy to get to Van Gogh Museum (1 km), Rijksmuseum (1.3 km), Leidseplein (1.4 km), Heineken Experience (1.7 km).
Vondelpark is a favorite place to go for a walking, running, riding bike along pathways, have a picnic, relax reading books or just rest a bit from so much sightseeing. The number of visitors to the park reaches around 10 million annually. Between April-May visitors could see the park awash with tulips in bloom, and May-September could watch live concerts at the open-air theater.
In 1996, the park was declared a “State monument” (Rijksmonument in Dutch), demonstrating the great cultural and historical value of the space.
P/S: Starting in September 2008, adults were legally allowed to have s.e.x in the park, as long as they must follow 3 rules: activities are limited to the evening hours and night, take their garbage with them afterwards and never have intercourse near the playground. It’s something similar to its Danish neighbor, where public s.e.x is only legal in one designated park, Copenhagen‘s Ørstedsparken.
