点评：We set off for Kilkenny Castle, one of the best-preserved manor houses in all of Ireland! Built in the twelfth century, Kilkenny Castle was the principal seat of the Butlers and Ormond families for almost 600 years.
Today, the castle is run by the Office of Public Works after it was left abandoned for almost three decades when the Butler family was beset with financial ruin after the Irish Civil War. In the late 1960’s the Butler family reportedly sold it to the Irish government for 50 pounds and Mick Jagger was there to see it happen!
Walking down these hallways we see how the OPW has done a remarkable job of restoration, bringing the castle back to its original grandeur.
The rooms are decorated with period pieces that depict what life would have looked like centuries ago. The parklands that surround the castle are stunning and free to explore.
They are a great place to take in the history of this place, even on a rainy day!
