点评:I visited Villa d'Este on a trip to Tivoli last year and, sadly, I set aside too little time to explore this site properly. I'd already gone to Villa Adriana (Hadrian's villa) in the morning and I visited Parco Villa Gregoriana and the Sanctuary of Hercules in the afternoon, but I wish I'd skipped the sanctuary and spent more time at this magnificent Renaissance villa. I didn't get a lot of time to explore the villa itself, but I roamed the gardens for roughly 45 minutes. The gardens are a prime example of Renaissance design and they include many ingenious fountains, ornamental basins and other interesting features. One of the most impressive features is the Alley of the Hundred Fountains, the waters from which cross the whole garden.
Following my visit I learned that Villa d'Este has had a profound influence on garden design as its gardens were painted and drawn by many notable artists, so their design was imitated far and wide across Europe.
If you ever visit Tivoli, make sure you go to Villa Adriana and Parco Villa Gregoriana, but do also set aside an hour and a a half to two hours to explore the incredible beauty of Villa d'Este as well.
