点评:Two of us old college roommates were lucky enough to take a combination tour with Hopi guide, Micah Loma'omvaya, to Blue Canyon and the Taawa petroglyphs. A guide is required. Micah is an anthropologist, archaeologist, priest, realty officer and an all around smart, friendly, professional, funny, and terrific guide. We had a great time. Micah’s patience and willingness to share his deep knowledge of the land, and history, culture, and language of the Hopi people was so appreciated. He shared the co-written publication “Sustaining Agriculture on the Hopi Reservation” that was very helpful. Our tour lasted about 6 hours, started and ended at the Hopi Cultural Center, but it seemed a lot shorter it was so amazing. The first stop was Blue Canyon. Our photos of its uniqueness did not do it justice. I have been to the Badlands, Bryce, Bisti Wilderness and Kasha-Katuwe, and none of them had the surreal shapes and colors of the rock formations with their “this can’t be real” white lines and stripes running across, through, around and down into the ground. It was mind-blowing in a Mother Earth meets Jackson Pollack meets Meow Wolf kind of way. The second part of the tour was to the sacred Taawa petroglyphs in a horseshoe shaped site in a wash surrounded by a high cliff. Micah patiently went deep into an explanation of their meanings. He pointed out the summer and winter solstice symbols, creation and migration stories, and numerous other symbols. It was extraordinary and I doubt we will ever look at any petroglyphs the same way again.
I almost didn’t want to write this review because the more folks found out about Blue Canyon and Taawa, the more they would visit it, but then decided that if the Hopi were willing to “share” then it was okay. Thank you Micah!

我几乎不想写这篇评论,因为越多的人了解蓝峡谷和塔瓦,就越会去参观,但后来我决定,如果霍皮族人愿意“分享”,那就没问题。谢谢你,迈卡!
