点评：Marden's Surplus & Salvage is a great place to shop at discount prices. One is likely to find just about anything there from shoes and clothing to hardware, auto supplies, craft supplies, household goods, small appliances, and more.
What drove this trip to Marden’s was the quest for a pair of grey and/or navy blue casual summer shoes. I found slip-on styles in both colors; however, I prefer lace-up styles which make for better shoes for walking and hiking.
Next, I shopped the misses’ clothing racks. I looked at pants first. A pair of casual knit beige or light tan Capri pants was on my wish list. There wasn’t much in the line of knits. I saw a lot of denim in navy, light blue, and white.
Then, I shopped tops. There were several I liked. I bought the one that was my favorite. It was a Rafaela 95% Viscose/5% Elastane Short-Sleeved Scoop Neck Marled Knit Top in royal blue with Embroidered Trim in white thread down the Front and on the Sleeves, Neckline 8 Bottom Hem. The marling was barely visible.
The manufacturer’s original price tag of $50.00 was still attached which is a frequent occurrence. Marden’s price was $7.99. That was 84% off. With Maine Sales Tax at 5.5%, the extra 43¢ brought the total up to $8.43. That reduced the savings to 83%. That still kept the top as another fabulous bargain from Marden’s.
On the way out, I spotted packages that were the shape of rice cakes. I checked them out. They were Quaker Buttered Popcorn Rice Cakes. They were $2.00. The regular price at local supermarkets was $2.99. So, the Marden’s price was 33% lower. This was a new variety for me. I decided to try a package. These were subject to the inevitable Maine Snack Tax of 6%. That was 12¢. The final price was $2.12. It was still a good deal.
Bargains like there are what keep me returning to the Marden’s stores.
I rate this experience at Marden’s at 4.50 even though I didn’t find the shoes I was looking for. I highly recommend a visit to this and/or any other Marden’s.
TIP: If you see something you really want and are hesitating, don’t. The item will likely not be there the next time you shop because Marden’s specializes in selling overstock/surplus, closeouts, and salvage. Typically, once something is gone, that’s it.
