点评:This 600 year old River Red Gum root hung over a clay bank, it fell into the river in the 1917 flood and had to be repositioned onto the bank because it was a hazard.
Frank, a local man decided he could do something with this. He had to gain permission from the authorities for its relocation. A chain saw large enough to cut the root statement from the 2 metre diameter trunk had to sourced , then that took three hours to complete the cutaway. With the aid of a houseboat, they created flotation mechanisms to move it. The root itself had a 15 hp outboard motor fastened to it. The journey took 40 hours to move it at 2km per hour to its new destination. The log was removed from the water near the historic bridge to be placed where it is today.
There are 11 black stumps in Australia and they say that Paringa's is the largest... but I do wonder if that is just men bragging about the size. :)
It's a bit of fun ...so I suggest you stop to look at it. And as a side feature that is the smallest information centre in Australia as well... sort of ... in a comic type of way. When you see it you will appreciate it I am sure. :)
