点评:Possibly one of the best museums in the world, however! This is also a detriment as it is absolutely packed at most times of the day. Definitely visit off season! You will be moving in a continuous queue all the way through the museum towards the Sistine chapel, and once you get to the Sistine chapel you will be herded out before you get to take in the art. Not a good experience. Most tourists also do not treat the place with the proper respect it is owed. Loud talking etc.
The line is very long to get into the museum if you don’t buy a ticket beforehand. And there are scammers who pretend to be museum staff who will try to lure you away from the queue. DO NOT FOLLOW THEM! As they will try to take you aside away from your group and charge you about 10x the ticket price. I saw it happen to about 2 other groups who got lured aside into a restaurant.
Anyway, the actual museum has some of the most amazing art and a huge collection of antiques. Also don’t forget to visit the garage where the previous pope’s carriages and cars are. The car which Saint John Paul II was shot in. Not many people go there which makes me think a lot of groups miss it. It is downstairs and outdoors next to the cafe.
It is definitely one of the places you have to see, not just as a Catholic but as a human being.
