This historic water-powered funicular, in operation since 1888, is not only a cultural monument but also a wonderfully charming way to reach the top of Neroberg hill. The ride itself is scenic and smooth, offering amazing views as you ascend or descend.
Over the years I’ve taken several rides on the Nerobergbahn - sometimes round trip, other times just up the hill before walking back down - and each experience has been memorable. On my most recent visit I took my boyfriend up the hill, and we enjoyed a lovely walk down. At the top you can also explore attractions like the Russian Orthodox Church and the Opelbad public pool, making the journey even more worthwhile.
Tickets are easy to purchase, either from an automated machine or a staffed booth , and everything is simple and well-organized. I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone visiting Wiesbaden. It’s not just transportation, but a piece of living history and a highlight of the city.
