Fun Day at the One Foot Island

点评：My husband and I booked a boat tour with Bishop’s Cruise while staying at Aitutaki in September. We wanted to visit the One Foot Island, voted one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Having been there, we wholeheartedly agree!
We were picked up at our hotel in the morning were taken to where the boat was docked. There were only 4 other tourists with us, so it was a very small group. Mata was our local guide and Barry was our boat captain. We stopped in several places, including one where we swum with school of giant trevally fish. (If you’ve never seen trevally before, they will introduce themselves by bumping into you as you swim by. They are VERY aggressive!)
We anchored at the One Foot Island, a small island with pristine beaches and lots of palm trees. While lunch was being prepared, we walked around this quiet island. We were glad we brought our water shoes because there were a lot of sharp corals and rocks all along the beach. Some people turned around because it was too painful to walk. It took us about 20 minutes to walk all around the island.
Lunch was delicious and included in the fare, but drinks were not. You can buy drinks from Mata. She will also stamp your passport, but since we didn’t have many blank pages left in our passport, we skipped this. Mata told us the story of how the island got its name. It was fascinating and totally not what we thought.
We were back to Aitutaki in the afternoon and dropped off at our hotel. It was a fun and memorable day -- highly recommended for anyone visiting the Cook Islands!
