点评:This was the best church guided tour I've ever been on, with a number of 'Wow!' moments. Our guide Andrew was a former Clerk Of The Works at the Cathedral so really knew his stuff. He made the tour so interesting with his depth of knowledge & good humour. Thank you Andrew.
After reading the health warnings about the narrow staircases, I was a little nervous about the 332 steps we would have to climb to reach the base of the spire but Andrew stopped at various points to explain what we were seeing, such as the wooden roof structure above the ceilings, the clock that controls the ringing of the bells and the bells themselves. Even so, a couple of wooden staircases made my heart tick a little faster!
The 332 step climb paid off with the panoramic views we got from the balconies at the base of the spire. We were fortunate in having a lovely sunny spring day.
Once back on terra firma, we were free to explore the rest of the Cathedral including the Chapter House where its copy of Magna Carta is on display.
A very enjoyable visit & well worth the admission charge.
