点评：The cathedral is magnificent to visit on its own. But I would HIGHLY rate the separately purchased 'tower tour'. It was superb value for money, lasting nearly an hour and a half and taking in the most amazing 'unseen' upper floors of the cathedral.
Our guide (John) was polite, friendly and very knowledgeable about what we saw. He was also hot on health and safety and made sure that all of the 9 people on our tour were all accounted for at each stage!
The view up into the spire from the inside was simply breath-taking and standing next to the clock when it rang the hour was a real experience!
Just a note that there are 5 very steep and winding staircases to go up AND come down - about 330 steps in total each way. So you need to be in reasonable shape to do the climb. There are generally decent handrails/ropes that you can use to support you, but some of the wooden staircases near the top have open framework so are a bit vertiginous if you fear heights, particularly when coming back down.
