After an introduction and short video, volunteers Steve and Richard took pains to impart their extensive knowledge and experience while explaining the function of each of the remaining tunnels and the associated measuring equipment.
The workmanship and ingenuity of the engineers who originally built and developed these tunnels is humbling. The scale of the larger tunnel is breathtaking.
A civil engineer in our gang was scratching his head trying to work out how the 24' openings in the reinforced larger tunnel could have been created in situ.
We got to poke our heads inside the enormous settling chamber of the 4x3 tunnel, and to explore its control room. And we walked around inside the 24' tunnel, squeezing between the turning vanes at corners 1 and 2 to bring us back to the inside of the enormous fan.
The above barely scratches the surface of the tour which I can't recommend highly enough.
