点评:We did the Tuscan olive harvest experience. It was great! We started by picking (actually "raking" is a better term) olives for about an hour. We each were given plastic olive rakes and were shown how to use them to pull the olives off the tree on to the netting on the ground. It's not really very hard, but it would be a lot of work if you were doing this all day. When we were done we put the olives into a crate and they took them to be weighed. We then got a tour of the olive pressing mill ("frantoio" in Italian.) Seeing how they clean, grind, and separate the oil from the rest of the olive was fascinating. Another great part was talking to the local farmers who were having their olives pressed. They all stand around like dads in a maternity ward waiting for their babies to be born!
Next we went in and had a nice, light lunch in the attached winery. We tasted local meats, cheeses, wines and other delicacies. We also got to compare various olive oils, including "fake" oils from the grocery store and also fresh oil that had been pressed that week. Very enlightening.
Our guide was informative, had a great personality, and spoke English perfectly. He was a local and really knew the area and the people.
