Almost 1000 years old!
Eltz Castle的点评
点评：We were staying just outside Cologne and our daughter was very keen to visit a 'German Castle.
There were a few in the area coming up with that description but non more impressive or unique than Eltz. It's amazing it's almost 1000 years old and essentially built a top of rock.
We got a family ticket which included a tour which was a reasonable €34 for 2 adults and 1 child. There were English tours avallable but obviously not as frequent as the German ones and so we just tagged along on one of those and used the paper guide which explained what was in the rooms we visited. A tour is the only way you can see Eltz, there isn't a self guided option and you only get to see a relatively small part of the complex. It was however worth it.
If you have mobility issues you will struggle as there are very narrow walk ways and staircases. From the car park you can either go right and enjoy a steady trail through the forest or head left down the paved road where there is also a minibus that will take you up/ down the steep hill to the entrance (€2 pp).
There is a onsite cafe and gift shop too but only after you have paid the entrance fee.
