点评：We toured the island on two bicycles, rented in Peschiera Maraglio.
The coastal road is the only route permitted for such bikes; but even if we had been allowed to use the roads that climb higher up, we wouldn't have taken advantage of this option. In fact, we no longer regularly cycle, and the moderate inclines along the coastal route are also challenging enough for us.
Assuming that the perimeter of Montisola is roughly a quadrilateral, the cycling route can easily be divided into four sections, corresponding to the four sides.
Taking the circuit counterclockwise, the first side you travel — at water level — is the eastern one, featuring a steep cliff and therefore devoid of inhabited areas. This leads you to Carzano, on the northeast corner of the island.
From here the road, in addition to turning west onto the northern shore, begins a moderate but steady climb that runs along the entire north side of the island, all the way to Siviano. From this stretch, the view is even more breathtaking, spanning the northern part of the lake and the (private) islet of Loreto.
The western stretch, from Siviano to Menzino, runs high along the coast and also appears to be the one with the most medium-sized or small settlements. From Menzino, the route then descends to Sensole, which is already at water's edge again, and ends on the sunny southern side, which allows easy access to the lake and is indeed very popular on warm or mild days. Here, another islet, San Paolo, comes into view.
Finally, the route returns to Peschiera.
This is a circuit of approximately 9 km, of rare beauty, which is an essential part of the island's charm.
