A fantastic experience in South India

点评：This tour (South India Birding tour - 2 weeks) was excellent value and almost everything met or exceeded our expectations. Firstly, our birding guide Eldhose was fantastic. He was exceptionally brilliant at finding birds especially owls at night and was endlessly patient with bad birders and photographers like ourselves! Our driver, Sedhu, was also amazing. Every journey was super-smooth and safe and he was always cheerful despite the traffic conditions. He spent every evening cleaning and washing his car so it looked like new every morning. This was especially valued as my husband suffers with back problems and a bumpy or jerky ride would have been problematic for him. Secondly, the accommodation was very acceptable - almost all of the places we stayed were in beautiful surroundings and were comfortable with very helpful and welcoming staff. Tissa’s Inn in Kochi was lovely. The Manor Backwater Resort in Kumarakom had a lovely setting but we did find the staff there a bit diffident and I wouldn’t recommend it on a weekend as we had a very noisy party there who took over the pool, lit barbecues right under our balcony and made lots of noise until the early hours - the hotel had nowhere to go to escape this. The 7th Heaven resort in Thattekad was great -especially the chef who made fantastic food. Olive Brooks hotel in Munnar was wonderful - a lovely room with beautiful views. Fernhill Palace in Ooty has some bad reviews on trip advisor but we really liked it and found the staff there absolutely lovely. It was the only one that had English TV channels in our room! Although my husband was unwell for some of our tour and struggled with the early 6am starts he was suggesting by the end of it that we should book the North India birding tour next! I should also say that Vinod made some excellent suggestions in adapting our tour to extend to a visit to Mysuru at the last minute and made all the arrangements and Iqbal Ahmed was a very helpful and relatable contact during the months before our tour in making all the arrangements and keeping us fully informed. We would not hesitate to recommend Asian Adventures to other people interested in birding or wildlife tours in India and elsewhere.
