点评:We were very disappointed with our Governors' Balloon Safari on 23rd July (Balloon 3), especially given the $580 per person price tag. Overall, this was a hugely expensive experience that failed to deliver and, looking back, was probably the biggest waste of money of our entire Kenya holiday.
For most of the flight we seemed to stay no more than around 100 feet above the ground, often skimming treetops and flying so low over the plains that there were very few panoramic views of the Mara. Having been on balloon flights before, this was by far the least interesting experience we have had. They have a big sign in the departure area boasting about the impressive height their balloons fly at so why we flew so low despite calm conditions is more likely to be related to conserving fuel due to cost. The ground skimming picture attached shows the evidence of low flying. Our two teenage children had been really looking forward to the experience, yet both agreed that the most exciting part was the landing, which probably says it all.
The champagne breakfast was excellent and was undoubtedly the highlight of the morning (sadly). Given the cost of this balloon safari, it still makes it probably the most expensive breakfast highlight we will ever have and remembered for all the wrong reasons.
We were also frustrated by an awkward interaction regarding the flight certificates. We asked for a single family certificate, but our pilot, Sergei, appeared to take exception to this and later insisted on handing out four individual certificates (3 blank). They went straight into the bin. The pilot at the neighbouring table handled the same situation far more professionally by simply asking guests whether they wanted individual certificates, one per family, or none at all.
