点评:We decided to stop by the Grafarkirkja when driving on the northern leg of our roadtrip between Akureyri and Hvammstangi (driving route 1 counter clockwise). Truth be told the Grafarkirkja is a little out of the way - about 20km off of the main route 1. That being said the road isn't treacherous by any means, but as anyone that has driven in Iceland will know...20km takes about 30-40minutes!
On the approach towards the small town of Hofsos the sign for the Grafarkirkja is on the right hand side, drivers are required to navigate through a small gate that requires you to open and immediately close it yourself (handy to have a passenger!)
There is a small sign that covers the history of the church in a small parking spot. Once out of the car the church is easily visible and requires a 5 minute walk to get up to it. Be mindful of your footwear as it is grass and mud, even in August having arrived after a small shower we were thankful of wearing boots!
The small churches interior is inaccessible to the public to preserve it however it is still fully charismatic and worth while to visit. Surrounded by a turf covered circle it is a great picture opportunity and being the first turf church built in the 17th century a great bit of local history to visit!
