Upon arrival tours are ushered into the cotton museum for an oral history, a short film, and exploring exhibits. The museum focuses on the surrounding communities harvesting cotton. No mention of the relationship of the grueling hardships of slavery and slave produced cotton.
When the tour shifts to the gin, you’ll stand in wonder at the industrial building. A small cotton garden, an old industrial cotton scale, An old wagon filled with cotton and a tractor adorn the exterior of the building.
The Smithsonian and the National Trust for Historic Plaque plaque is on the exterior wall.
The staff work hard at preserving the building. The 1925 Bessemer twin -type IV oil engine powers the gin twice a year. It’s great honoring yesteryear.
