Beautiful Winery, Great Wine

点评：My partner and I stopped in here while we were in the area. Having been to few a few other nearby wineries where we found the wines to be just ok, but with excellent views/surroundings and phenomenal service, we arrived with similar expectations here. On arrival, I was worried because there was a sign at the entrance, the winery was hopping, and we were without a reservation. Thankfully, we had no problem getting a table, and were warmly greeted by Cathy, one of the owners. After getting our table, we went to do our rafting g at the outdoor pavilion. We were lucky in that Robert, Cathy’s husband and co-owner, did our tasting. Not only was he energetic, informative and happy to share sips and discuss wines beyond our tasting, but we were very pleasantly surprised by how much we really liked the wines! Now, a few notes on that. First, we found most the winery’s best wines were in the tasting, which was smart. Second, as others have said, they do produce more dry and off-dry wines, which is more where our palates skew. Lastly, as with most wineries in the DMV, we found the whites to be superior to the reds, BUT we nonetheless enjoyed a few of the reds, which is an accomplishment in my book! Bonus points for the lovely view and food options beyond cheese and crackers. Their baguette warmer with warm bread was a cool detail!
It’s a shame people are giving poor ratings to this winery only because they stopped allowing children and recommend reservations. While I know this may not work all the time for everyone, I appreciate the winery’s efforts to maximize their customers’ experience. It’s notable that most of the poor ratings only address this, and not the quality of the venue or their product. Sure, recommending reservations and not allowing children is an inconvenience, but it is a popular and bustling venue selling alcohol, and a relaxing respite just outside the huddle and bustle of life in the DMV.
