点评:This museum has an incredible collection of Old Master paintings. I especially appreciated the new thematic rather than chronological organization. The one thing that I was a little disappointed in was that they refused to give me a student discount because my university ID card did not have a date printed on it, so keep that in mind.
I chose to enter the exhibit through the entrance atop the right hand staircase, that way I started with some of the works I was less interested in and saved the best for last, namely Albrecht Dürer’s 1500 Self-Portrait, the crown jewel of the collection, that hangs in the final room (if you navigate the collection in the direction that I did). Though there may not be as many works from some of the artists that come to mind for the average person, like Raphael or Da Vinci (though they do have a few in the collection), they have an incredible collection of Northern European masters whose work I find much more engaging, like Peter Paul Rubens, Jan Steen, Dürer, and Pieter Brueghel (among others). If you’re an art or art history lover, especially of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, I cannot recommend this museum highly enough!
