The Lost Colony的点评
点评：I have seen this production at least once in each decade since the 60's . This latest attempt is poorly conceived and poorly executed. Instead of a outdoor drama of which it is known, respected, and achieved iconic status it has turned into a different
more diluted attempt. The lost colony was real life and death. It now is part comedy, musical, special effect light show. There are mythical beasts made of branches and lights instead of actors with powerful speech. There is a misguided colonist simply known as Tom who at sometimes is a drunkard. He is in and out of what should be important parts of the presentation kind of like that fly you can't seem to get rid of at the family picnic. There's a sword fight amongst the pilot ( who shouldn't even be a player in the story) that acts as a filler to take up time but accomplish nothing. There's
only a handful of native actors.. The narrator is a old, mystical native woman who would have us believe that what happen had more to do with mysticism and actual real human spirit. I could go on...but you get the point. I can only hope that what once was returns to its former glory. I'm guessing these changes are supposed to appeal to children but if that is the case that philosophy is flawed. Children need to learn early that life can be hard and does not always work out like we plan. I saw this play as a child, took my children, taken grand children. WE HAVE COLLECTIVELY LOST A TRUE TREASURE.
