点评:This intersection in the center of Palermo is one of our favorite areas to visit. It attracts thousands of people daily. You may come across people singing or doing something crazy. We highly recommend the café’s of Bisso Bistrot, Villena and Retrobottega as we enjoyed each one of these places.
The “Four Corners” was built in the 17th century. The area was to attract noblemen to move back into the city from their country villas. It is one of the first examples of city planning.
The architecture is of a Baroque style, four stories high. There are four fountains on the street level up to the second story representing the four seasons. The third story is dedicated to four Spanish rulers of Sicily. Four patron female saints decorate the fourth level.
Not far away is Chiesa di Santa Caterina, a beautiful church, one of our favorites. Not far is the Ballaro Market filled with Palermo ambiance and a good place to get authentic street food.
We highly recommend taking a bus outside of town to see the Sanctuary of Santa Rosalia on Mount Pellegrino. Not to be missed is the 12th Century Norman Church in Monreale.
