Incomplete Visit and No Refund
On July 16th, we paid €13.60 (adult) and €5.20 (child) for admission to Hohensalzburg Fortress, after having entered at 5:21 PM (17u21). The 8:00 PM (20u00) closing time was clearly displayed everywhere: on TripAdvisor, Google Maps, their own website, in brochures, and at the entrance.
To our surprise, important parts of the museum were already closed at 6:45 PM (18u45). When we inquired about this at the information desk, we were told that "everything normally closes at 7:00 PM" and that refunds were not possible. This was especially frustrating because the castle was still selling tickets at 7:30 PM. The argument that we could "visit everything" within the allotted time is nonsense, given the wait times and the early closure of sections.
This misleading communication is unacceptable. Visitors pay for a complete experience, but don't get it due to inconsistent opening hours and inadequate information. Customer service was also disappointing, with several counter staff offering no solution. Exept a service line.
Advice to future visitors:
Double-check the exact closing times of all sections of the castle before purchasing tickets, and be prepared for an unexpectedly early closure. Our experience was one of disappointment and wasted money.
